Childhood Memory

This week's "One Deep Breath" haiku prompt is to write a childhood memory in haiku. The one that came to mind was how my friends and I believed that barracudas lived in the storm drains on my street and it was always an exciting adventure to "feed the Barracudas".

Feeding the Barracudas

barracudas lurk
in the storm drains beneath
unsuspecting feet

insatiable fish
need a regular feeding
or else... disaster

we creep to the grate
careful to keep fingers clear
of monstrous jaws

offering tasty
pebbles, bark dust, and fruit cups
to the fish frenzy

wide eyed we look close
at flashing white teeth and tails
accepting our feast

we dart back, breathing
an enormous relieved sigh
counting our fingers...

Moonstruck

This weeks One Deep Breath prompt is "Moonstruck", an excellent choice! Lately my nights have been interrupted frequently by the newest addition to the family, a 3 month old kitten who is the most interesting mixture of evil and cuteness. So here is the 'ku she inspired to fit this prompt!

moonlight awakens
midnight kitten energy
pouncing on my face
