Thirst

This week's One Single Impression prompt was "Thirst". Here are a couple of takes...

Summer's end

Dry ghosts whispering
through tall yellowing tassels
of late summer corn

Parched

loneliness baking
cracks deep into my landscape.
i persist here, parched

Romance?

An offering for this weeks One Single Impression:

Romance?

Plucking petals off

:He loves me: :He loves me not:

Don't trust the daisy...

Daisy's Point of View

Could have told you I

had an even number of petals!

He loves you not!

Breather

Breather

coming up for air
too long spent resolutely
drowning:(sky's so blue!)

wash:rinse:repeat

waves against the shore
muffle the sound of endless
fights i never win

spinning

always spinning 'round
will i? won't i? does he?: [trapped]
by my foolish mind

Stranger

Something for the "One Single Impression" Prompt:

bloodshot eyes staring
back from the shop window pane:
can this be my face?

And then some random ones...

lines blurring wildly
crossed, recrossed, left far behind
ghosts of mistakes past

I
want
my life
exploding with light
purpose shining from within
brilliant, bold, boisterous, brave, beautiful, buoyant
let me die knowing truly
that i faced each day
fearless
loved
kind

Childhood Memory

This week's "One Deep Breath" haiku prompt is to write a childhood memory in haiku. The one that came to mind was how my friends and I believed that barracudas lived in the storm drains on my street and it was always an exciting adventure to "feed the Barracudas".

Feeding the Barracudas

barracudas lurk
in the storm drains beneath
unsuspecting feet

insatiable fish
need a regular feeding
or else... disaster

we creep to the grate
careful to keep fingers clear
of monstrous jaws

offering tasty
pebbles, bark dust, and fruit cups
to the fish frenzy

wide eyed we look close
at flashing white teeth and tails
accepting our feast

we dart back, breathing
an enormous relieved sigh
counting our fingers...

Moonstruck

This weeks One Deep Breath prompt is "Moonstruck", an excellent choice! Lately my nights have been interrupted frequently by the newest addition to the family, a 3 month old kitten who is the most interesting mixture of evil and cuteness. So here is the 'ku she inspired to fit this prompt!

Arg

moonlight awakens
midnight kitten energy
pouncing on my face

A little something

I've been busy lately so haven't been able to post as much as I'd like, but i have been writing pretty consistently for the past couple months. I'm drawing as much as I am writing, but since I haven't got a good way to scan in the images I am making, we'll just stick to the poetry for now! Here are a few verses I came up with a few weeks ago when ODB had the prompt "Insects and Creepy Crawlies"

across the blanket
a picnic feast awaits
the intrepid ant

***

bare skin attracts the
attentions of amorous
lady mosquitoes

***

one
fat
lazy
fly buzzing
against the glass pane
befuddled by the barrier

***

Dragonfly

terror of the sky
the dragon chomps another
pesky mosquito

***

and here are a couple random ones that I came up with on some lazy afternoons...

melodious notes
drift from silver wind chimes
on the orange breeze

***

tiger lilies purr
ferocious feline flowers
napping in the sun

***

in distress or not
damsels are often captured
by pink snapdragons

***

like a movie scene
white petals fall around us;
my heart should soar but
unkind reality sets in;
you are not the one...
